A recent analysis of smartphone industry by a research firm Gartner predicts that Android, the mobile OS platform from Google led Alliance, has got it all, to rise to the second dominant position in terms of market share within a span of 2-3 years. And Gartner hasn’t one or two but a whole bunch of reasons to justify its assertion.

Since the inception of Open Handset Alliance(OHA) in late 2007, the alliance has only seen more and more companies clubbing their hands in building an open, standard and powerful platform for carving out the future of Mobile Computing.

Take a look at the reasons that puts Android ahead of the likes of iPhone and Blackberry.

1. Being led by Google puts Android in a very strong position.Google, being the power house of cluster of high utility web apps(Maps, youtube, mail, Docs etc) makes sure that Android users get the best web services in seamlessly integrated manner.

2. Android has been improving really fast. Cupcake 1.5 release was well-received, and Donut 1.6 has already been sent over the air to handset owners. With (almost) no user complaints for any of the updates so far, the future updates might be even faster and better.

3. Android is an open platform, making it a much lucrative alternative for third party app developers. Apple, as we everybody knows, puts a lot of restrictions over the app approval and the latest fuss over Google Voice app disapproval and FCC’s investigation over the same issue has certainly affected the mindset of developer community. It’s only a matter of time when Android app market will be far bigger than iPhone app store.

4. As the Open Handset Alliance (OHA) comprises of all major handset manufacturers namely HTC, Motorola, Samsung among others, android handsets are bound to grow abundant within no time. As already reported by us earlier, about 30 android phones are supposed to hit the smartphone market by next year.

5. Android offers everything (and even more) compared to feature set and hardware capabilities that iPhone, Blackberry and other competing smartphones are offering.
